Art, Music and Words around The Coffee Table

Hornet

Hornet

The colours spell danger-

Yellow and black in bold stripes,

And the drone like a chainsaw,

Cartoon-ish, exaggerated madly.

An unmistakeable intruder,

Buzzing wildly and bumbling

From window to wall,

Every footfall audible

Like a prehistoric bug

Blundering into our modern room.

And yet, I feel no fear.

This insect, as big as my thumb,

Does not terrify me.

I feel simply wonder and love.

I’m sorry, Mr Blonde

mouse

I’m sorry, Mr Blonde

“Oh no!  Not you!”

and as the words form in my head

I know how ridiculous they sound.

For if I didn’t want it to be you,

why set the trap in the first place?

 .

I guess, I just expected

you to be cleverer than that.

Mr Blonde.

 .

I’ve watched you run down the cable

from ceiling to floor

countless times.

 .

I’ve watched you, brazen

as you scan the computer desk for crisps

wash your whiskers and sit on the phone.

 .

I’ve known you were in the bin

as the dog stands, staring,

not quite believing what he’s seeing.

 .

I’ve found you, red handed,

at night time.  Flattened against the wall

in the bird cage.  Little blonde mouse-shaped cuttlefish.

 .

I guess I thought you were cleverer than that.

Being bested by the lure of peanut butter.

Small blonde body broken in the trap.

I’m so sorry.

Animalia Portuguesa – Birds

So our menagerie meanderings continue as I present  a few birds. My technique, particularly with birds in flight, is wave the camera in the direction of sky and see what happens.Sometimes, it even works!

Animalia Portuguesa – 1 – Dogs

Before I publish the conclusion to our Portuguese trip, I wanted to publish a series featuring some of the creatures I stumbled upon during the course of pointing my camera around that lovely country. At our friends Sitting Pugs suggestion, here’s a few I’ve managed to dig up as I trawled through the thousands of photos from the tour. Today, Dogs. Enjoy!

I couldn't resist taking this guys picture - such a cute tail! I think it was somewhere near Vila Cha

These two were great mates - and we got to know them well as they scampered around Barca de Alva during the week we were there.
