Café Crem

Art, Music and Words around The Coffee Table

But is it Art?

I did a day trip as part of my job, taking about 40 English kids to France. Our destination was Bologne-sur-Mer. All around Bologne-sur-Mer there are sculptures using old cars and bits of cars. It’s very amusing to see some of them but is it ART?

I like it but do you?

  3. I like it 🙂 It sparks my imagination. That makes it art to me.

  4. Where does the art begin and the illusion end?

    or vice versa?

  5. Mmm…looks like a car crash to me. It’s amusing, but I don’t see it as art. When I used to live in the UK, there was an auto spares shop that had half a car fixed to the wall outside. It’s like that, no more, no less. Nobody thought it art. Perhaps (he said with a trace of irony) art like this is defined by the size of the grant from the public purse that it garners.

  6. Is it pretended to be art?
Anyway… strange, 2 years ago we were in Boulogne-sur.Mer and we didn’t see any of them. Are they new, Viv?
I don’t know if it art or not, and I agree that it is kind of funny. but I wonder how it will look like in some years, totally rusty and so. i don’t think it will be an enjoyable view,At least I wouldn’t want to live in the houses there.

  8. I suspect they are new; they were all over the city but had a special recycled garden in the old city where the whole garden hardware was made from things recycled from cars. I must try and post more but every time I try and post a photo it takes ages or I lose connection.
I think they are probably what you might term throwaway art; not something that is meant to last a long time.
