a study in coffee cups

This morning I had the most wonderful time at Cafe rue Morin.

I took this picture to share with you.

  1. I like this picture. Very well set up. It seems strange to look out a cafe window and see what looks like a residential porch.

  2. Oh, and I see they have Splenda so you can go ahead with the calories saved and have that donut with your coffee.

  3. It is a residential porch Bill. That is the beauty of these small resort ski villages here. Over the years the residences on the main streets and the side streets have been converted into cafe’s and boutiques and art gallaries. Really you should come to visit sometime.
As well the area where I live is known as the Laurentians and is even home to many great Canadian artists including the deceased Jean Paul Riopelle [Canadian Abstract Expressionist Painter, 1923-2002] one of Quebec’s most famous painters who lived here in Saint-Margarette five minutes from this cafe.

I just wonder if the book is always opened at the same page for the photos..

  6. A lovely photo. You have a good eye for composition. The title is intriguing. Just objects, sure. And if they should disappear, what then? Replaced with another cup, another manuscript?

  7. I’m wondering what is on your lists in the journal? Adjectives? Synonyms? or maybe a poem in this intriguing layout?

  8. Theres a back story Shelley to the idea of objects and it occurred today. I love taking pictures too and the first novel I wrote is about a writer and a photographer. Hmm!!! Then your questions are so well put they formulate a whole book in my head!!! Hmm!!! A new book. I feel I have to write it. With appreciation since you inspired it I will get your name in it when I publish it. Hmm!!!

  9. Those are not lists Susan. I write in three columns even my manuscripts too. If you try it you will see its quicker to capture the words flowing through you and you can write longer without getting tired if you don’t hold the pen to tight. Also I have no idea when I write what is going to come out. I sort of follow the story as if it is being dictated. Thanks for dropping by Susan.

  10. I cross posted to my blog philosophis+ and there you will find the back story that I did not think was on topic here. But the photo was.

  12. I was intrigued by the same thing as Susan… and I’m still intrigued by the explanation. I have to try it myself, on the paper because, anyhow, I love writing with my Schaffer caligraphy pen…

And Riopelle, wow! I know he had a big house somewhere on an island with some wild goose in the name… I’ve read some of his writings and interviews on painting and, very sincerily, was more impressed by his writings than his paintings (though there are some very good)… I wish I could have travelled more in Quebec and not only… quebec-Quebec and a fishing expedion in the North of Quebec is all I’ve done… apart some travels to Montreal…
