Bomb scare?
Saturday, time to make a stop by The Minibar again, and to enjoy some art by our youngest artist here in Cafe Crem: Le Piou de Pomme
Now, I am not a person who normally tries to analyse paintings when I see one, not at all. But when I see some childrens art, something in me automatically tries “to understand”- With children’s art I always have the feeling that there is a well defined message within the painting, that the little artists are ALWAYS trying to tell us something very concrete, or to express some very precise feeling. When I compare them with myself, who always has a totally empty brain when I start a painting, it seems to be a huge difference.
Am I right, what do you think? I would really love to know your opinion.
Anyway, my first reaction when I saw this one was to ask:
“Oh God, what does that mean???”
I really had not a clue, where I normally have a spontaneous interpretation (not pretending here that I am right with it!)
My second reaction was to think that I was in front of three terrorists here, the two in the background carrying a bomb, and all three wanted to attack the train on the top. I suppose this is a strong emotional reaction from me to the red & black colours, and above all to the black thing the people in the background are carrying. But why I saw a bomb there, I don’t know. It might be because I saw another drawing from Piou the other day, where he had drawn a love bomb for his mother… now, a love bomb, this really looks like our so tender and lovely Piou! But real terrorists?
Now I tend to think that these three people are going on holiday to some exotic land where the people wear such funny hats on their heads and that the black thing is a suitcase. But this interpretation might well be inspired by some insider info I have got…
Pomme, if you, know, please tell me what the drawing means. I’m really dying to know!
And 1000 thanks again to you, Piou, and 1000 kisses too, for sharing with us your wonderful drawings!

First Love?
Saturday!
Time again to sit at The MiniBar and admire a new piece of work painted by our youngest artist “Le Piou de Pomme”.
Unfortunately I have heard that he’s been a little bit poorly recently… well, I guess it is very cold right now where he lives in the North of France!
We all wish you to get better very soon, wonderful little man!
Personally I find this piece amazing. As an artist I am amazed by the extreme composition, and I guess there is hardly a grown-up artist who would dare to make such a one. And when I say “dare” I do mean it. Really, we should look more often at what our children draw and take some courage for an original and contrasting rich artistic style. By the way this applies to our lives too…
Without getting too deep into some psychological considerations, I wonder if this artistic ability of strong contrasts which Piou seems to have results from the extremely original and rich style of life which he is living within his family, thanks to his mother Pomme… I guess it has a lot to do with it!
I am intrigued too, quite deeply in fact, by the way how Piou featured the two characters on this drawing. The colours are exactly inverted by the girl and the boy. Why is it? Is it because the boy (which I assume is Piou himself) has blond hair and the girl black hair that he inverted the other colours on them?
And then, I would love to know why he painted the feet or shoes the way he did. I first thought that the boy is in fact standing on a little piece of garden, but then I saw the blue square piece by the girl… does that mean that she is standing on water? Does that mean that we have got it totally wrong with Jesus? That he was girl and not a boy?
And blue clouds” in a white sky? I thought it is white clouds in a blue sky!
God, Piou, you throw my whole knowledge overboard!
But at least I am happy to see that the persons have still 5 fingers on each hand… although… what happens really with the girl’s right hand?
Anyway… I am given no titles for Piou’s paintings, so I will always have to give it one myself. My feeling here is that this little boy on the drawing might in love with the little girl, and this is why I called it “First Love?”
You are welcome to propose some others, I am sure that Piou would love it!

Another Brick in The Wall…
Hello everybody!
I invite you to come and take a drink at the Minibar.
Our youngest artist Le Piou de Pomme is exhibiting here a new drawing, to which I – his proud godmother – have given the title of that wonderful song by Pink Floyd. I will never forget how I was listening to it on loop while I was travelling by night through the North of Norway, on my way to the Northern Lights….
Anyway, the more I look at this picture the more fascinated I am. Really, take time and look at everything there. Each detail is so enjoyable, sometimes even a big mystery, and the featured characters have such a strong expression by simple means.
I adore the two people on the bottom putting their fingers in their ears… not to hear the plane in the sky?
I also adore the little cool and relaxed figure on the bottom right, like an impartial observer.. the artist himself perhaps?
And the one on the ground?
And the bricks on the wall!!! Absolutely wonderful!
And the door, no more belonging to the house it seems…
I am generally not an adept of taking art, poetry, music, etc, into pieces, but in this case I cannot help to observe everything.
I would be happy to hear your comments about this adorable picture, and anyway:
we should all support and welcome our young artists from the MiniBar!
Piou, I love your drawings and I love you!

31.01.2008 Supplemental
Yesterday I asked Pomme, Piou’s mother, if she could ask Piou what he had in his mind as he made this great drawing. Pomme translated to Piou this post and the first comments Kevin and me left, and here are their own comments and explanations :
- les deux enfants ne se bouchent pas les oreilles, ils font une grimace.
(Il a représenté là des jumeaux qui ont été longtemps ses amis et l’ont mis de côté maintenant …)
The two children don’t put their fingers on their ears, they are making a face.
(He has featured twins who had been his friends for a long time and ignored him now…}
- L’avion ne fait aucun bruit !
The plane isn’t making any sound!
- C’est bien lui qui est représenté en avant du dessin (toujours habillé)
It is really Piou himself in the foreground (always wearing clothes)
- le personnage par terre il s’est fait taper par les jumeaux et le personnage à part sur la droite va venir le chercher.
The character on the ground has been beaten by the twins and the character on the right side is coming to gather him.
- Quant à la porte, c’est la porte du jardin!
As for the door, it is the door to the garden!

Inauguration of The MiniBar with “Le Piou de Pomme”
As I announced this afternoon, we still had some space left here in Café Crem and I decided to dedicate it to our children.
What I mean with “our” is simple: the children and teens who mean something in our life. They might be our own children, their friends, kids from the family, or children of friends.
What I mean with “dedicate”: The MiniBar is meant as a space where they can show us what they are good at. It can be drawings, paintings, poems, words, greeting cards, photos… it is also meant as a space where they can tell us about their pains, their joys, their dreams. Whatever is important in their life and which they would like to share with us.
I am very proud tonight to present to you MY first child:
“Le Piou de Pomme“.
Well, the MY is quite symbolic, as he is in fact the son of Pomme, my best friend in France. We call him “Piou” {which means something like “small” in some kind of tender French language} because he is still a little boy… about 6 years old if I remember well… but with such an immense heart already!
I never met him personally, but he sent me video greetings and a kiss, last year, on my birthday. We also already worked together, last year, on a series called
“Les Mots du Piou”
And as I said previously, when he heard that Kevin was poorly recently, he sent him by email a drawing he did especially for him (well, I guess Pomme helped a little bit with the sending…), with the intention to make Kevin laugh and feel better.. It is an incredibly kind gesture, and we both, Kevin and me, were very touched.
So here it is, the first work of art exhibited in our MiniBar, done by Le Piou de Pomme.

About Café Crem
Hello Boys & Girls from around the World!
Fancy a coffee with us?
Café Crem was created by Miki and Kev Moore in 2007 with the intention of gathering like-minded artists, writers and musicians together around the coffee table to discuss and share thoughts, ideas, art, etc.
This initial desire has surpassed our wildest dreams with a myriad of collaborations taking place between the various members, creating pieces of work that simply would not exist without Café Crem.
Have a wander though in our different rooms:
“Cafe Literati”, the Literary Room
“Café L’Arte”, the Art Gallery
“Ca’ Puccini”, the Music Studio
and, last but not least,
“The MiniBar”, our creative space for our kids and teens!
You are all welcome.
Contact Miki at miki@goodaboom.com if you want to participate!
