Café Crem: “Let us talk about us”

About Café Crem

Cafe Crem The Coffe Cup Club

“I just love milk coffee!
As I was drinking my 10th milk coffee of the day from the cup “Cochonette” and dreaming around, I had an idea.
I love coffee cups, I never miss an occasion, wherever I am to fall in love with a coffee cup and to buy it. (luckily you can buy this kind of love!). And people, who know me well, never think twice about which gift they could give me.
And so it came to be that each of my coffee cups is lovely, and has a story.
And I think, everybody in the world has one or many lovely coffee cups with a story.
So I had the idea to create here, in WordPress, a new club, “The Coffee Cup Club”, where everybody can present his or her favourite coffee cup (s).

Of course, as I am a painter, I was first thinking of drawings or paintings of coffee cups, but I think I should open the club to the photographers too, and the writers, and the musicians, and the film-makers, and even to the simply coffee drinkers!

THE NEW CAFE CREM (21.12.2007)

1. I still think that the basic idea of presenting our favourite coffee cups, and telling the stories connected to them, is nice. I will keep it, allowing and even encouraging everybody who wants to go on with this thread to post coffee cups entries. Kevin and me for example, we still have a lot of great coffee cup stories, and we will present them gradually. I hope you agree with me on this point.

2. The main weak points of Cafe Crem were that the theme was too restrictive and that everybody who is not a visual artist or has not the technical possibility to include photos in her/his entries felt intimidated, or excluded. To remedy this, I propose to choose a new theme every 2 weeks (on monday perhaps?) whatever it is.

“…The two week timing sounds just about right for each topic (even for busy people) and leaves people looking forward to the next topic, AND knowing when to check back on the blog for it…*, says Madame Monet.

The theme could be connected to actuality, to a seasonal event, to a special day, to a general or personal topic too, etc…whatever we like! Everybody, and especially of course the authors of Cafe Crem, is invited to participate to the theme, commenting on the existing entries or making one or more entries about the theme. And as before any visual element like photos, paintings, etc is welcome, but it is very important that nobody feels obliged to put some. The actual theme and the expiry date will always be written above the header image of Cafe Crem

Something which I am not sure about is how we “technically” decide about the next theme. I think we all should propose some, and Kevin and me choose the next one, which I will announce 3 days before it starts. The proposed themes will be collected in the page “Theme Collection”.

THE NEWEST CAFE CREM (06.04.200 8)

I have taken a new decision. I am sorry, but it is in my unsettled nature to always take new decisions and change things… Three months ago I had decided to change a little bit the concept of Cafe Crem, introducing the monthly themes, and it was good. But in the meanwhile I feel a little bit “stuck” within this concept and I also find it always more difficult to choose a theme. It goes without saying, I guess, that even when one finds a theme interesting, one has not always the time or is not in the mood to make a post, and this leads to a kind of negative feeling, sometimes even frustration.

The last theme having been “God in our lives”, I think it is now time to write about ourselves in our own lives. As we all agree in the past: the best thing in Cafe Crem is its people, and there is for me (and Kevin of course) nothing more important than to get to know each other.

I mean, I don’t really want any more concrete theme in Cafe Crem, I would just like that we all speak about ourselves: what we are doing, what we did in the past, what we plan for the future, what we think, what we dream, where we travel, what we read, what we are listening too, what we hate, what we love, which problems we just have, which paintings we paint, which exhibitions we make, which successes or failures we have, etc… anything which marks our everyday lives and makes them so personal.

As always every kind of contribution is welcome: prose, poetry, photos, music, art, films, etc… And as always, it would be always great to see from time to time some coffee cups here and to read their stories!

And, last but not least: New authors or contributors are welcome in Cafe Crem! As we say in France: “Plus on est de fous plus on rit!” (The more crazy people there are the more we laugh!)

I like the idea. In a few days I will have a painting with a cup ready. By the way the Miki in Saint Leon is not being found.

Welcome, proud to greet the first club member!
Tell me when your coffee cup is hot and I´ll do the necessary to serve it online! I´m very impatient to see it…
And thanks for the hint that Miki got lost in Saint-Leon! I found her now…

Hello there, Miki-au-Perigord ! If you like forests, here in Québec there are lots of them - some so imense that if you get lost you’ll be lost forever!

Perigord! That’s Robert Merle place for his first volumes of Fortune de France! I loved that book!

…and I forgot to tell you I like a lot your “header”!

  • cafecrem // October 20, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Thank you Danu! And do you know what: I like my header too! One day when we are many people here I´ll let make coffee cups, with this picture printed on it…
I don´t really like forests… at least from inside… they scare me somehow. I have no problem to get lost for ever though, but then rather somewhere with much light and all the colours of the rainbow…

    Miki,

I would like to make a post about some coffee recipes we enjoy here in North Africa. How can I do that?

    Best regards,
    Madame Monet

Fine, smells well already! Just give me the email you gave to wordpress and I´ll add you as an author.

  • Yolanda // November 4, 2007 at 8:14 pm

I would love to hear about those recipes and try them… Yum!

I LOVE coffee cup art! I am looking forward to visiting again soon :) I’ll post one of my coffee cup pieces tomorrow.

And regarding tea drinkers…I’ve debated that one myself. I’m sure they’re nice people, but tea just isn’t the same as coffee. And their cups have a much different personality…

  • Ion Danu // November 5, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Nothing says you cannot do both! I’m a tea drinker myself in the evening…

  • shelleymhouse // November 5, 2007 at 6:01 pm

Both! Now that is interesting… :) Do you drink them out of the same cups?

  • michael pokocky // November 10, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Hey there. Thanks for writing Miki. This is great. You know what? I write at cafes. There are many of them here in Ste-Adele Quebec Canada since our village is one of many all in a circle of 20kms where I go to write in my journal. Each place different. Each coffee cup unique. Ha ha!!!
If you want I’d love to be part of your “salon.” I believe in serendipity so much and what a surprise to find the link to this place in my inbox this morning. Mmmm!

I’m new here, so hello everybody. I’d like to join in the tea/coffee discussion. I drink both tea and coffee…and I drink them out of the same cups..I hope I’m not giving my poor cups a psychiatric disorder….

  • Miki // November 22, 2007 at 3:51 pm

Hello, Maggie, so pleased to see you here and welcome to Cafe Crem! Your first comment with the psychiatric disorder is so funny! But don´t worry, if your cups get disorder, they will be in good compagny here, our cups have all a kind of personal story close to mental disorder…

  • kevmoore // November 22, 2007 at 4:11 pm

Welcome Maggie! Nice to meet you.

Hola Daniel y bienvenido en Cafe Crem!
I have read already part of part 1 of your story yesterday, but unfortunately I have no time for more now, we are leaving for 1 week and are in a hurry. But I’ll go back to your blog when we come back.
