Sculptura Portuguesa – 1

I know, it’s just an excuse to get some of these photographs published, but we saw such an array of great sculptures and monuments, I wanted to share some with you. Sadly, many of the best were erected on roundabouts, and we couldn’t really get a shot of them on the move, so they’ll have to wait until we return to Portugal another time. But for now, here’s a few for you…

  1. Hi there, Kev!

Just wanted to say that i started reading your journey in my country, and it’s been a very funny reading :) We look at things…well, with portuguese eyes, so a foreign view is a different way to understand our country.

I didn’t reach the end of the journey, so i just hope you had a good time :)

    Cheers

  2. Thanks, Mario! I have one more entry to make about the end of the journey – although in the last entry we had already crossed the border into Spain. Both Miki and I loved your country, and we are sure to visit again many times.

  3. Hi Kev,

Great post, I think that the architecture of the doorway in Castle at Sintra is great!

  5. I love the way you photographed “series” like this on your trip so we get to see a range of images in each. Did you set out to do this, or just find it happened?

Living out in the country, we don’t get to see so much city sculpture so this is a treat. I particularly like the Castello de Vida square piece – looks like a parent and child, very expressive.

  6. I just found it happened really, Bob. Though perhaps there was an underlying unconscious process going on. Certainly, with the series of Portuguese doors I’ve photographed (which I will present in flickr) it became a conscious task.
The Castello deVida piece is lovely, isn’t it? We really found the Portuguese have excellent taste with some of their recently commisioned civic sculptures.
