Café Crem: “Let us talk about us”

Little old lady at Coffee Catz

May 14, 2008 · 6 Comments

Oh dear, I suppose someday someone will be referring to me as “the little old lady who”, although I’ll never be a LITTLE old lady. Anyway, the title is just to refer to the picture I posted a couple days ago. I did this sketch as a response to Miki’s commentary about ways that people at CAfe Masko read the newspaper (which she never does). A kind of anthropological commentary. . .This was sketched before the L.O.Lady started her crossword puzzle. One would surmise from this that a bagel can be eaten while reading the paper, but must be finished before the serious business of cross words begins.

Lovely sketch Susan! I’m guessing the L.O.Lady (great abbreviation!) is ordering her thoughts while she uses the bagel-eating as a kind of meditative aid.
Then, mind and body refreshed, she can begin the crossword in peak form. Or perhaps she’s just hungry… Talking of crosswords, did you know “eat bagel” is an anagram of “age table” …perhaps she has a special corner reserved? :-)

Great reflection on this Kev. I bet the LOL would love your anagram.

This is a wonderful sketch, Susan, I do recognise the Little Lady from the photo… and of course I recognise the artist’s hand holding the pen and the brushes… deep sensitivity in lines and colours…
I reckon that you don’t have wind at Coffee Catz… because if you look at Gone with The Wind, my last sketch from the series “The Art of Reading”, you will understand that here, in Spain, reading the newspaper is a sport for itself, for which you need at least both hands and feet and even a sailing boat… nothing with eating a bagel at the same time!

I like this sketch. You could have told grandma not to read while eating. That can be a cause of overeating. I suppose it could also be a cause of overreading as well. I’m not sure what the consequences of that would be.

I like the simplicity, the effectiveness of the drawing…

Thanks Bill. The only old lady who is subject to advise from me is my poor mother and she’s getting good at changing the subject whenever I “launch in”.
