What’s the Current Price for a Cup of Coffee, in a Café or Restaurant, in Your Country?

While reading the last post, I thought the café Miki and Kevin were sitting in looked chic and expensive!  I wondered how much a cup of coffee cost.  In Marrakesh, a lot of expensive cafés have opened these past three years that have elevated the price considerably up to between 20 and 30 dirhams (in the center of Guilez).  This is between two and three Euros (or $2.50, to $3.50) for a cup of coffee.

Outside of the new center of town are some cafés more like what all the cafés used to be like (as in the picture below).  At these cafés, the price is still between 7-10 dirhams (about one Euro, or $1.00 - $1.30).

Great post MM, I think the problem these days is the rise of the coffee as a fashion accessory. double de-caff soya frappacinno, you need a degree in italian just to order one! i think caramel machiatto actually means “this coffee will cost more than your house” - and whilst i love the starbucks experience, i’m coming to resnt the lightness of my wallet as i leave, especially when we have such great cafes like masko, where Miki and I go. let’s hope there will be a backlash , and people will visit these more reasonably priced establishments

What happened to good old simple infusion of grinded coffee beans? Here, in sherbrooke, quebec, you can have one for 1,25 CAD but for some more pretentious stuff you can go as high as 15 CAD…

Me, I buy a Mellitta coffee can of 1 kg with 11-12 CAD (+ txs) and I rezist about 1/2 a month with that (2 coffees per day, if I still want to sleep some… ;)

I think I’ve become immune to the effects of caffeine, Danu! I can drink the stuff all day and still sleep standing up!

    Great Post, Madame Monet!
I don’t know how much exactly, but i know that I am always horrified by the price when I drink a coffee in a cafe in France. And not only horribly expensive, but tiny and much too strong (for my taste)!

You aren’t drinking decaf, eh? That would make immune to the caffeine effect, indeed…

haha! danu, I need my coffee with coffee in it! Decaff is an abomination! :-)

I agree with you… It`s like wine without alcool… painting without color… music composed exclusively from silence…

Always one to economize, I have found the perfect cup of brewed coffee at our local Joe’s coffee kiosk next to the fruit/vegetable market on my way home from town. $1.00 USD for an 8 ounce cup of heaven! The perfect amount for me. However if I were to indulge in a double Latte or something it would be more like $3.50 I think.
